Socrates WordPress Theme Customer Support

I had another good experience with the Socrates theme customer support team last week. I had installed the theme on another one of my sites and the header section was not displaying. At all.

So of course I got all whiny and described my problem on the Socrates  support forum. When you do that it’s always a good idea to include a link to the site in question.  That way the team can look at your source code for hints on what the problem might be.

In a short time, Dan Nickerson spotted two closing tags that were missing.  One for my Google Analytics  code that’s contained in the header and thus broke it,  and a missing div tag that was also messing with the theme. And that can happen with any WordPress theme.

There are thousands of free WordPress theme available. But if you fork out some cash for a premium theme like Socrates that comes with a ton of layout options, easy monitization, and built in SEO features, you are also going to want good customer support. You get that with the Socrates WordPress theme customer support. I can testify to that.

My Adsense Earnings Went Up Using Socrates Theme

One of my other websites is Repair My Foundation which is a blog about residential foundation repair from the home owner’s point of view. I’m not in the business of fixing slab foundations.  I just write about it.

And of course I monetize the site with Google Adsense.

I had used a variety of WordPress themes and plug-ins to help me display the ads and it worked OK. I often had to poke around in the code of the theme and manually insert the Adsense script where I thought the ads should go. Sometimes the spot on the page where I chose to insert the ads would totally break the site.

I tried a  couple of WordPress plug-ins, but never could get them to work in pages (as opposed to posts.)  And I had written quite a few pages with specific content to generate organic traffic. But then I had real trouble placing ads on those pages,  which, you know, sucks.

So I installed the Socrates WordPress Theme and did three things with the Adsense placement.

  1. I set the Socrates  theme to use the 336 X 280 Adsense block in posts.
  2. I then told the theme to use the 468 X 60 block in the bottom of the posts.
  3. Finally I set the Socrates theme options to show one set of ads in the leader board.
  4. Made sure the options I picked within the theme showed the allowable number of Adsense units per page.

All of this was quick and simple to do using the admin panel within the Socrates Theme. It was using the leader board ad block that monetized the pages. I finally had ads on all those other pages I had written.

And to my delight, my Adsense earnings have doubled.

You can get a free 7-day no obligation trial of the Socrates WordPress Theme. It’s worth downloading it,  if for no other reason than checking out all the easy ways you can monetize a WordPress site with it.

That is all.

Styling Options in The Socrates WordPress Theme

You’ve built a great website on the WordPress blogging platform. You’ve spent a lot of time building up the content. The trouble is, using a free WordPress theme, your site looks like a bunch others out there who are using the same theme.

You need to stand out. ( Like an NBA player at a ping-pong tournament.)

However, by using a premium WordPress theme like Socrates, it’s really easy to make custom changes to the style, or look, of your website.  Change the header image, the font and link colors, and the background with just a few clicks.

The photo that stretches across the top of the page is the header image.  Socrates comes with over 200 header images in over 20 categories.  Those range from business and computers, energy and finance, to games, health and pets, with plenty of other categories.

However, if you are handy with photo and graphic editing software such as Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, or the free graphic software Gimp, you can create and upload your own custom header and really make the site your own.  Socrates comes with a built in tool to upload and install your own header image without editing any code. How easy is that?

Socrates also comes with a library of background images to choose from. You install them with the click of a button. Again, if you have a custom background image you’d like to use, there is an upload tool that makes it simple.

Pulling your custom design together with matching font and link colors is easy in Socrates as well.  The theme comes with a handful of  built in color schemes that you can choose with the click of the mouse. However, you can also add your own set of font and link colors simply by changing the color codes.  To help you with that, there is a built in color picker tool in Socrates.

This also makes it really easy to modify the colors in your Adsense code so the ads blend nicely with your site if you choose to run the ads.

If you are looking for a WordPress theme that makes it easy to fully customize your site and that comes with built-in monitization tools, you need to take a serious look at Socrates.

Fully Customize Your Navigation Links in Socrates

Another feature you should look for in a premium WordPress theme like Socrates is the ability to build  navigation menus where you want them to be.  Socrates gives you a lot of choices that are really easy to put into play.

You can build navigation links in at least four area’s on the page by just choosing options and filling in the forms with your URL’s. Go nuts…use all four.  Add even more by using sidebar widgets.

The areas available are above the header image, just below the header, below the footer set to the left, and below the header justified right.

The below the  footer navigation areas are perfect for adding external links to other sites in your network.

Adding the links is really easy in Socrates. You fill in the URL, then fill in the Title form which automatically adds the title attribute for your link. Using check boxes you can choose whether or not to have the link target open in a new window.

Another handy feature of these navigation areas is check-box by each URL form that allows you to choose the “no follow” attribute. This way you can tell the search engines not to index certain pages on your site like the contact form page or other pages that you may want to keep private. You can do that in Socrates simply by checking or un-checking a box. Easy breezy!

You should always look for these kinds of feature when stepping up from the free WordPress themes and moving on to the premium themes that you spend a little money on.

Socrates is packed with those kinds of features.

Page Layout Options in Socrates

When you use a premium WordPress theme one of the options you’ll want is a choice of layouts for your page. The Socrates theme gives you five options. You can choose your option with the click of a button….very cool.

The default setting is a main content area with a 300 pixel wide right sidebar. The next choice simply puts the sidebar on the left.

The third and fourth choices for the Socrates layout reduces the width of the sidebar to 150 pixels, perfect for smaller widgets or ads, plus more width for your content area. Again, you can place the more narrow sidebar on the right or left.

Slimmer sidebars leave you more screen real estate if you like to put larger images in your posts.

The fifth layout choice in the premium Socrates WordPress theme allows you to put sidebars on both sides of the page with a central content area for your lovely words.

Each of these layout options are accessible with a click of a button. Obviously this makes the Socrates WordPress theme very flexible and easy to use.

Tech Support is Good For the Socrates WordPress Theme

If you’ve spent some time with the blogging platform WordPress, then you
already know that once and a while you are going to run into problems.

There are hundreds of WordPress theme and plug-in developers, and a ton of web hosting
companies offering differing levels of PHP and database support. It would be unrealistic
to expect every WordPress installation and theme to play nice with each other all the time.

The page you are reading right now is on a hosting company that’s new to me, and yes,
the WordPress installation (3.01) and the Socrates theme were not working well at first.

The good news is there is a lot of support available when you purchase the theme. I didn’t see
my particular issue addressed on the support FAQ or forum, but I did see where Socrates
developer Dan Nickerson and his team took a very hands on approach to solving his
customer’s problems.

In a private message, I sent Dan my log-in info and he was able to go in and fix my site (this
one) within a few hours.

(Hint…it was my really old Adsense code for the top leader board. Who knew? If you are going
to run Google ads there, make sure you have the latest version of the codes.)

So yeah, thumbs up to the help desk for the WordPress Socrates theme.
